Regent University College of Science and Technology has held its 15th graduation ceremony for the graduating class of 2021.
The graduation of 253 students with the theme ‘Entrepreneurship Mindset in an Emerging Economy, the Role of Private Universities’, was to mark the achievements of the students as well as awarding some with exceptional performance in various courses. Boateng Jeremiah John was awarded the overall best student.
Founder and Chancellor of the school, Professor Emmanuel Kingsley Larbi, charged the graduates to be resilient and valiant in their effort to attain their aspirations. “The future belongs to those who dare to dream and work towards it. Now let all of us go and dream and work for a new Ghana, a new Africa, and a better world,” he said.
Professor Ernest Ofori Asamoah, the school’s president noted that based on research from the Institute of Statistics, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), only 10 percent of graduates are employed right after they complete their national service whiles the remaining unemployed graduates are employed after a decade of hardship.
“There is the need for coordinated policies and efforts to sustainably solve the graduate unemployment menace in the country and private universities such as Regent has a crucial role to play,” he noted.
He mentioned that the university has put in place some necessary measures to equip their students with adequate skills and education in order for them to fit into the job market, industries and the society, as well as escalating and promoting the innovative business ideas of students.
Mr. Asamoah appealed to government to aid the university with the challenges they have with transport and road system as well as partnerships to enable the university open up business in the university.
“Let me take this opportunity to appeal for a bus for the university to support outreach programmes and industrial visit. The road leading to the university is in a deplorable state and we would be grateful for the support of the district assembly. We are seeking for partnerships to establish our business incubator on campus and government support or introduction of potential partners in that direction would be much appreciated,” he appealed.
