Golden Age International School launches 50th anniversary

Golden Age International School has launched its 50th Anniversary on the theme ‘Our Golden Anniversary, 50years of Comprehensive Education down the Generations’.

As part of activities outlined to mark the celebration, the school will hold a festival of nine lessons and carols in December, organize memorial lectures of the founder, Charlotte Scheck Shang-Simpson in January 2022 and also appreciate cocoa farmers by holding a Chocolate Week event in the school in February 2022.

Also in March 2022 the school will hold a career month, raffle and fun fair in April 2022 and will finally crown it with the anniversary celebration in May 2022.

In an address, the Deputy Minister for Education, Gifty Twum-Ampofo lauded the effort of the Golden Age International School towards ensuring an enabling environment for academic discipline with emphasis on technology, moral, physical and mental orientation.

She said one way the country can benefit from citizens and ensure economic growth, social mobility and success is when partners complement the efforts of government to ensure every Ghanaian is educated.

“It is commendable that the success of Golden Age International School and many other private school providers are complementing the government’s efforts in this direction. There are many ways to make an impact in the world and I know you all agree that providing education is the greatest. And Golden Age International School has been doing so for 50years,” she said.

For her part, the Principal of the school, Theresa Okantey said in order to meet the demands of this technological dispensation, the school intends to raise funds for expanding its ICT lab.

“The expected amount to be raised is GH¢1,210,000 and a portion of the money will be used to upgrade ICT Lab to world-class standards and to procure 50 new computers, all of which will help  students to prepare for the rigours of life.”

She added that the school envisages an era where the learning and teaching of science will be much improved for both students and teachers and for that matter her outfit is also working on expanding and equipping the school’s Science Laboratory.

“Our celebration is not so much a festivity but a solemn occasion to pause and look back at this 50-year journey and appreciate all that we have achieved, as well as looking to the future and envisaging all the mountains we have yet to climb. Today we pay tribute to our illustrious predecessors, management and staff who have served this institution over the years and reflect on how faithful we have been to the vision and ideals of the founder, the late Charlotte Shang-Simpson who established this school,” she said

The CEO of the School, Alexander Shang-Simpson also announced the introduction of the maiden Charlotte Scheck Shang-Simpson Award for excellence in English, which will be an annual award to be awarded to JHS two students who will show the greatest aptitude in both spoken and written English.

“The ethos of this great institution has always been to produce well- rounded citizens, who not only produce excellent results in their academic pursuits but being aware of the importance of their mental and physical well-being, we aim to provide such extracurricular activities as   tae-kwondo, various sports, excursions to places of national interest,” he said.
