Bay TV launches King of Streetfoodz reality TV show

Bay TV Ghana, in partnership with GB foods, producers of Gino and Pomo range of products, has launched the maiden edition of a docu-reality show dubbed King of Streetfoodz Ghana. This initiative, according to Bay TV, is to exhibit and showcase street food joints in the country and to appreciate their services.

According to projects manager for Bay TV, Georgina Amfo Baidoo, sellers of street foods have been kept in the quiet for far too long, adding that, hardly would bloggers or the media pay attention to their activities even though they provide meals ranging from breakfast, lunch and supper to majority of the country’s population.

“Have you ever wondered how many people depend on street foods every day? Have you asked how many people are either blogging them or making them important at all. It is either they are writing about the popular eateries, the plush restaurants and many others. We at food Bay TV has taken this opportunity to take a tour round the regions to select some food vendors to showcase what they have,” she said.

On the King of streetfoodz reality show, she explained that in all 13 food vendors have been selected out of the over hundreds of entries they received. She said that “out of the over hundred and more entries we got, we got, we have selected thirteen street vendors which we will be grooming and training for thirteen weeks.”

Georgina Amfo Baidoo at a press interaction to launch the ‘king of streetfoodz’ in Accra mentioned the price tags for the winner, first runner up and third runner up.

She said the winner will walk away with the bragging right as the King of Streetfoodz and a whopping price and services worth GH¢50,000 which includes his or her space area renovated, properly branding of the business, and a promotional video to advertise it. The first and second runner ups will also receive services, cash and other incentives worth GH¢20,000.00 and GH¢10,000.00 respectively.

Marketing Manager for GB Foods, Akua Obiri, expressed excitement at the initiative of BAY TV, saying the streetfoodz reality show is one of its kind that has not been seen in the country.

“This is different, in Ghana we don’t actually have anyone doing anything like this with food vendors, the people who cook to feed millions. We felt this was actually a very good platform because the people they are targeting for this program are people who use our brands and our products. And based on the ideas and discussions that we had, we felt it was a good way to reach out to the food service outlets out there,” she said.

On his part, Co-founder for BayTV Ghana, Oluwafemi Ogundoro, said the main aim for the Streetfoodz docu-reality show is to help boost food tourism in Ghana, Africa and to showcase it to the rest of the world.

He said: “the essence of this is for us to showcase the best of African food to the rest of the world by way of boosting food tourism. We need to take one step at a time, so we activated two locations being Kumasi and Accra. After this season we hope to then activate it in the other regions.”

The King of Streetfoodz will begin to air on television from 30th October at different times on different TV stations. On Saturdays at 5:30pm on Adom TV, 6pm on Joy Prime, 6:30pm on Max TV, and Sundays on GHONE TV at 6:30pm
