With the aim of planting over 3000 trees this year after its initial tree planting campaign started in 2023, some staff of ASA Savings and Loans and students of Wesley High School in Bekwai collaborated to plant 200 tree species of coconut and mango last Friday.
This is intended to curb the adverse impacts of climate change and biodiversity loss. This initiative is in support of Green Ghana Project introduced in 2021 by the government.
The Area manager of ASA, Mr Samuel Sekyi-Odame disclosed that this is an aggressive agenda of the financial firm to help restore the country’s vegetative cover and absorb CO2 emissions.
By this exercise we reaffirm our commitment to UN SDG-13, Climate Action, and mentioned that the firm will continue with its afforestation agenda to ensure that it contributes its quota in addressing climate related risks.
Mr Seth Morgan, the Ashanti South Divisional Manager of ASA, who took part in the exercise explained the rationale behind the selection of schools for this collaboration.
“These teenagers and young adults are the next generation of leaders, hence inculcating in them the culture and importance of trees is the best education we can channel unto the future generation,” he added.
The headmaster of the school Mr Samuel Blankson Adjei, expressed joy for the school’s selection and assured management of ASA that the seedlings will be nurtured to serve its numerous benefits such as food, windbreaks, and erosion check.
