Hohoe United and Swedru All Blacks have secured historic promotion to the Ghana Premier League (GPL) 2025/26 season after putting up unparalleled performances in their respective zones of the Division League over the weekend.

Hohoe United extended their home winning streak to 15 matches with a commanding 3-1 win over relegation-threatened Inter Allies at the Hohoe Sports Stadium.

The win confirms Hohoe United’s promotion to the GPL, leaving them five points clear of second-placed Port City with one game to spare against Great Olympics.

It’s a significant achievement for the Volta Region-based side, which only recently emerged on the national stage.

Hohoe United was formed after Liberty Professionals exited competitive league football in 2023, with new owners led by Hohoe MP John-Peter Amewu acquiring Liberty’s Division One slot.

The Ghana Football Association formally approved the name change following the submission of the required legal documents, making Hohoe United the club’s new identity. Under the terms of the change, the club remains responsible for all rights and obligations of Liberty Professionals.

With 22 wins from 29 games, Hohoe United have impressed with their organised play and consistent performances. Their nearest rivals, Port City, dropped points against True Democracy, making it mathematically impossible to catch up.

The club’s rise brings fresh excitement to next season’s Premier League, as Hohoe United prepare to represent the Volta Region at the highest level of Ghanaian football for the first time.

Swedru All Blacks Zone-Two

Swedru All Blacks, on the other hand, clinched their qualification for the 2025/26 GPL season with a famous 3-0 win against former Premier League side New Edubiase United at the Swedru Sports Stadium.

The win takes them to 66 points from 29 matches, seven points ahead of second-placed Sekondi Rospak FC.

Zone One play-off

In Zone One, Techiman Eleven Wonders and Real Tamale United are qualified for the play-off for the sole Premier League ticket.

The Access Bank Division One League Championship play-off will take place on Friday, May 30, 2025 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Zone One-A winners Real Tamale United will battle for the Ghana Premier League slot against Zone One-B winners Techiman Eleven Wonders.

Real Tamale United were relegated from the top-flight league in the 2023/24 season after finishing 18th with 25 points, while their opponent, Techiman Eleven Wonders, also got demoted from the top flight in the 2021/22 season after amassing 40 points and finishing 16th.
