The Volta River Authority (VRA) has assured the Association of Ghanaian Industries (AGI) of its collaborative support for local businesses which are gearing up to do business in the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Chief Executive-VRA, Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa in a speech read on his behalf by the Deputy Chief Executive (finance) Dr. Ebenezer Tagoe, stated that his outfit believes that the AGI’s efforts to support local businesses seeking to trade within the African single market for growth of the local economy, even in these unusual times, must be applauded and supported.

He added that the two bodies, as key partners and vehicles for national development with a common objective of improving the economic and social development of the country, must collaborate and share expertise to help local businesses take advantage of the free trade open market.

These remarks were made at the Ghana Industrial Summit and Exhibition (GISE’ 22) launch, which is an event aimed at giving a unique opportunity to policymakers, investors and other industry players to discuss pertinent issues affecting the industry on one platform. The speech indicated that the authority is committed to improving the country’s economic and social development and supporting local businesses to stand tall among their peers in the sub-region.

“VRA ascribes total importance to the AGI and its developmental ideals for local enterprises to network and showcase their products and services to prospective clients and investors.

“It is therefore of utmost necessity for the VRA and AGI to continue collaborating to influence public policy and build and promote national development,” he said.

In addition, he indicated that VRA has become a more resilient and financially viable business organisation because of the ‘people’ factor and the zeal to inculcate a private sector mindset in public service delivery.

“Our resolve to build, nurture and develop our human capital for excellence in all our endeavours has sustained our market leadership for national development,” he emphasised.

Themed ‘Investing in Ghanaian industries to leverage opportunities in the single African market,’ about 150 individuals and 40 companies have been billed to participate in the summit slated for later this month.

The CEO of AGI, Seth Twum-Akwaboah, said the event was designed to provide a supportive and competitive business climate that will make businesses locally and internationally competitive.
