Bliss GVS Pharma, a leading pharmaceutical company in the country, has donated antimalarial and essential medicines valued at over GH₡ 250,000 to two key health institutions, the Regional Medical Stores in Takoradi and the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
The donation is part of the company’s broader “Act for Africa: Malaria-Free Continent Campaign,” which aims to increase access to effective malaria treatments across Africa.
The initiative coincides with continued national efforts to combat malaria, which remains one of Ghana’s most pressing public health challenges.
The medicines supplied include a range of artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs)—such as Lonart, P-Alaxin, Gsunate, and Gvither Plus—which are endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as first-line treatments for uncomplicated malaria.
At brief ceremonies held at both locations, Mr. Daniel Bomfeh, Regional Health Promotions Manager, and Dr. Salifu Alhassan Tia, Director of Pharmacy, received the donations on behalf of their institutions.
Both officials praised the contribution, noting its importance in boosting treatment capacity at their facilities.
“This donation will go a long way in strengthening our efforts to manage and reduce malaria cases,” said Dr. Tia. “Access to effective drugs is vital, and this support from Bliss GVS Pharma is both timely and impactful.”
Company representatives, Mr. Justice Yalley (Western Region) and Mr. Dauda Adam (Northern Region), reiterated Bliss GVS Pharma’s commitment to public health, emphasizing that the company views the availability of essential medicines as a basic right, not a privilege.
The events were also attended by representatives of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, including Dr. Kwesi Biney and Dr. Charles Nkansa Buabeng, who commended the donation and underscored the role of private-sector collaboration in national health programs.
Beyond the donations, the company organized health education sessions at the Effia Nkwanta Nursing and Midwifery Training College in Takoradi and the Tamale Nurses’ and Midwives’ Training College. Topics included malaria prevention, proper treatment protocols, and personal hygiene, including vaginal health.
The company credits its Managing Director, Mr. Gagan Sharma, as the driving force behind this initiative. “His steadfast belief in healthcare as a fundamental right continues to guide our mission,” said a Bliss GVS spokesperson.
It is hoped that as Ghana intensifies efforts to meet national and global health targets, philanthropic interventions like these reflect the critical role of the private sector in strengthening public healthcare infrastructure and combating infectious diseases.
