Ghana Insurers Association renews cooperation agreement with Moroccan Federation of insurance

The Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) has renewed its technical cooperation agreement with the Moroccan Federation of Insurance (FMA) at the 11th Casablanca Insurance Rendezvous held in Morocco.

This significant event took place from April 16-17, 2025, under the theme “New Technologies and Artificial Intelligence (Al): What Opportunities for the Insurance Industry.”

Ghana was selected as the Country of Honour at the event, a testament to the growing importance of the Ghanaian insurance market.

The Casablanca Insurance Rendezvous brought together insurance professionals, regulators, and experts from across Africa and beyond to discuss the latest trends and innovations in the industry.

The event was attended by over 1 ,000 participants, including key stakeholders from the insurance industry. Notably, the 1st Vice President of GIA Mr. Nashiru Iddrisu and CEO of the GIA Dr. Kingsley Kwesi Kwabahson, as well as the Executive Director of BIMA Ghana, Sosthenes Konutsey, were in attendance.

The renewed agreement, signed by GIA President Mr. Seth Kobla Aklasi and FMA Chairman and CEO Mr. Mohammed Hassan Bensalah, aims to strengthen cooperation between the two associations. This partnership will facilitate the exchange of ideas, expertise, and best practices in insurance and reinsurance, ultimately benefiting the insurance industries in both Ghana and Morocco.

Key areas of cooperation include:

  • Exchanging successful experiences and best practices in insurance and reinsurance
  • Identifying areas of cooperation to bring the convention to life, including training and capacity-building programs
  • Biennial review of the agreement and exchange visits to respective insurance markets to foster greater understanding and collaboration

This renewed agreement marks the continuation of the existing cooperation between the two institutions, which was first established in 2017 during the Royal visit of His Majesty, King Mohammed VI to Ghana.

The initial technical cooperation agreement was signed by the former GIA President, Ms. Aretha Duku, and Mr. Mohammed Hassan Bensalah.

The Ghana Insurers Association is committed to promoting the development of the insurance industry in Ghana, and this partnership with the Moroccan Federation of Insurance is an important step towards achieving this goal.

By working together, the two associations can share knowledge, expertise, and resources to drive growth, innovation, and excellence in the insurance industry.
