The Heal KATH Project is an initiative aimed at addressing the urgent need for infrastructural improvements at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, Ghana. KATH is the second-largest teaching hospital in Ghana and serves as a referral center for 12 out of the 16 regions in the country.

The project is part of the Asantehene’s 25th Anniversary Legacy Projects and seeks to mobilize resources and funding to upgrade the hospital’s infrastructure. The goal is to create a more functional and efficient hospital environment that promotes healing, comfort, and safety for patients, visitors, and staff.

The current state of the hospital wards at KATH is quite dire, with dilapidated and hazardous conditions that affect service delivery. The Heal KATH Project aims to renovate the hospital’s main blocks (A, B, C, and D) at an estimated cost of $10 million. The project includes improvements such as modern amenities, data networks, ceiling works, nurses paging systems, and public address systems1.

Phase one of the project has already seen significant renovations, including the completion of works on leaking roofs and the exterior overhauling of dilapidated offices, wards, and compartments. The project also incorporates sustainable initiatives, such as transitioning to solar power to reduce reliance on the national grid.
