Three prominent creative industry personalities who were conspicuous in the NDC campaigning mechanism were, this week, named as appointees to represent various positions within the government with respect to its Creative Arts industry.

The first announcement was that of Kofi Okyere Darko, a creative personality and fashion entrepreneur – popularly known as KOD, who has been named as the Director for Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President.

Looking forward to serving under His Excellency’s guidance, Kofi has since expressed his commitment to the role and his eagerness “to contribute my expertise to strengthen stakeholder relations, facilitate investment and promote cultural and economic collaborations”.

Then came the welcoming news of renowned media personality and tourism advocate, Gilbert Abeiku ‘Santan’” Aggrey, as having been appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), marking a significant milestone in the sector, given his immense contribution to the industry over the years.

Chief Executive Officer of Kaya Tours – a leading Ghanaian tour company, Abeiku is widely known as ‘Mr. Tourism’. Through his work, he has played a pivotal role in promoting domestic and international tourism. His passion for tourism has been evident through his extensive media engagements, tourism campaigns and advocacy efforts to enhance the sector’s growth.

The final delightful piece of news was that of venerated Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur, Rex Owusu Marfo – more popularly known as Rex Omar, who has been appointed as the Presidential Staffer for Blackstar Experience. The Blackstar Experience is the government’s bold tourism agenda which has the vision to position Ghana as the epicentre of Pan-African heritage, cultural renaissance and historical reconnection for the African diaspora; building upon the success of initiatives like the ‘Year of Return’ and ‘Beyond the Return’ which have not only welcomed thousands of visitors but have also cemented Ghana’s place as the Gateway to Africa.
