UG School of Pharmacy honours late Dr. Agyekum Addo

The University of Ghana (UG) School of Pharmacy has honoured the late Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, in recognition for his remarkable contributions to Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) programme.

The meritorious award dedicated to the late pharmacy enthusiast posthumously highlights his enormous legacy chalked at the UG School of Pharmacy.

Affectionately known as KAMA in the pharmaceutical spheres, Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo was seen as an instrumental figure not only in the pharmacy business spaces but also in academia, where his frantic efforts aided in the development of Pharma D programme at University of Ghana.



Receiving the award, a special delegation from the bereaved family, including Dr. Mrs. Nana Achiaa Ankrah, Akwesi Addo Agyekum, Maame Yaa Asomani and Dr. Papa Yaw Agyekum Addo, expressed appreciation to the school for eulogising their beloved patriarch.

In a remark, Dr. Mrs. Nana Achiaa Ankrah – daughter of the deceased, who is also a distinguished pharmacist and the CEO of Arise Foods Limited, said: “On behalf of the family of Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo under the leadership of my big brother Dr. Kofi Addo-Agyekum – the CEO of Kofikrom Pharmacy, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to the University of Ghana School of Pharmacy for this remarkable honour. It is a privilege to accept this award in honour of my late father”.

According to her, Nana Dr. Agyekum Addo was deeply committed to education and the progress of Pharmacy in Ghana and believed in mentoring and empowering future pharmacists, including her brother Dr. Kofi Addo Agyekum, her sister Pharm Ama Addo Agyekum Kegey, herself – also a Doctor of Pharmacy, her nephew Dr. Papa Yaw Agyekum Addo – also a Doctor of Pharmacy, among others, striving to shape a generation of professionals dedicated to excellence and service.

Dr. Nana Achiaa Ankrah, who doubles as a nutrition expert, reiterated that her late father’s passion for knowledge acquisition, discipline and innovation continues to inspire everyone till today; adding that this recognition honoured to Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo is a true reflection of his life-long mission, and the entire family is grateful for this meaningful tribute.

She admonished all pharmacists to honour his legacy by embracing his vision and upholding to the values he cherished in the profession.

Dr. Nana Achiaa Ankrah used the opportunity to thank all who have been commiserating with the family since the demise of Nana Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo and prayed for them as they share thoughtful messages with the family.
