Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has celebrated a remarkable career and contributions of Assistant Commissioner Christiana Odi-Adjei, first female sector commander of the Tema Collection.
The occasion marks the conclusion of a distinguished career journey of her life and a moment which reflects her legacy.
Speaking at the retirement ceremony last Friday in Tema, Commissioner of Customs Division, Brigadier General Zibrim Bawa Ayorrogo recounted the outgoing sector commander demonstrated unwavering dedication and professionalism since she joined the erstwhile Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS).
He said, her career journey reflects her commitment to excellence, growth, and service to the nation with distinction in various locations, including Shai-Ho Collection, Tema Collection, Kotoka International Airport, Kumasi Collection, head quarters and Accra Collection
According Mr Ayorrogo, Mrs Adjei rose through the ranks in her pursuit to knowledge and expertise became Assistant Commissioner in 2020, a promotion that marked another milestone in her illustrious career.
Furthermore, she was the Assistant Commissioner of warehousing at the headquarters and in 2022 became the sector commander of Accra Collection, James Town, and most recently served as the Tema Collection Commander, a crucial role in January 2023.
“Her leadership during this period further demonstrated her ability to manage complex operations and drive positive outcomes. Under her leadership, the Tema Collection exceeded its revenue target by 8.85% in 2023 and 8.64% in 2024″.
Commissioner Ayorrogo hinted that Mrs Adjei’s career is a testament to her tireless dedication, deep knowledge and commitment to the Customs Division. Adding that ” her legacy is one of professionalism, innovation, and service excellence which inspired many and a role model to all who have had the opportunity of working with her.
He expressed the gratitude of the service to her for her contribution to the Division and nation. We hope you will look back on your career with pride. You left an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire those who follow in your footsteps.
Mrs Christiana Odi-Adjei is the first female but the 26th sector commander for the Tema Collection which is the largest in terms of revenue collection in the Customs Division, told the B&FT in an interview that she has made a significant impact not only on her Organization but on the personnel she worked with.
She explained “An impact in the organization in the sense that I believe in excellence. So whatever I have embarked on the objectives and the aims of the organization, I have followed up with all of them and I made sure I achieved them with excellence”.
“And I also see myself as a role model, not only to women, but to everybody who have had the opportunity to work with me”, she indicated.
Mrs. Adjeii outlined her achievement as follows; the president of CEPS Course 1&2, 92 in 2009 to 2013. The president of the ladies club, Tema Collection from 2012 to 2015. Won the Ghana Women’s Award 2024, first female to head the Tema Collection, pioneer in the implementation of Customs Technical Services Bureau (CTSB), won the best senior officer award, pioneer in the change over of GCNet to ICUMS and many more.
The sector under her leadership exceeded her target of twenty-two billion to twenty-four billion in 2023. The Collection again exceeded her target of thirty three billion to thirty-six billion in 2024.
She noted ” as I bid you farewell, I am leaving with memories that I will cherished forever, be influenced by the lessons learned, guard the friendship forged and value the experience shared”.
