The ECG Training Centre marked a significant milestone with the graduation of 14 participants from its inaugural Youth Apprenticeship Programme in Electrical Installation.

Among the graduates were two pioneering young women, signaling progress towards gender inclusivity in the traditionally male-dominated electrical engineering field.

The six-month programme, which commenced in June 2024, offered comprehensive training in electrical installation, proposal preparation, and project execution. Designed to prepare young people for the job market, the curriculum combined technical expertise with soft skills, including project management and customer service, ensuring well-rounded development.

Joseph Asare, one of the graduates, shared his transformative experience. “The programme was life-changing. I gained valuable technical skills and learned how to handle clients and complete projects professionally. I feel ready to pursue a career in the energy industry,” he said.

Graduates are optimistic about their futures, with many aspiring to establish their own businesses or secure roles in the growing energy sector. The emphasis on proposal preparation and project finishing has equipped them with a competitive edge, boosting their confidence as they enter the workforce.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Director of the ECG Training Centre, Ing. Godfred Mensah, commended the participants for their dedication and hard work throughout the programme. He also highlighted the significant demand for the training, noting that over 120 young people expressed interest but could not participate due to limited resources.

Ing. Mensah called on corporate entities and foundations to collaborate with the ECG Training Centre to expand the programme’s reach. “There is a clear need for this kind of training to empower our youth and support the energy sector. With more partnerships, we can train even more young people and address the skills gap in the industry,” he stated.

The Director also hinted at the launch of additional training modules in the near future, aimed at diversifying the Centre’s offerings and creating more opportunities for young people to thrive in various technical fields.

The Youth Apprenticeship Programme underscores the ECG Training Centre’s commitment to developing skilled professionals and fostering equal opportunities in Ghana’s energy sector. It is a call to action for stakeholders to invest in the future of the country’s youth and support initiatives that drive national development.
