Tamale Technical University (TaTU) has held its 7th congregation ceremony, during which 2,113 students were awarded degrees, diplomas and certificates across various disciplines.
The graduating class included 111 Master’s degree recipients, 471 first degree holders, 162 Bachelor’s in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), 403 diploma holders, 81 diploma graduates in CBT, and 460 certificate programme graduates. First-class honours recipients from each field were recognised with certificates and cash awards for their academic excellence.
Addressing the congregation, the Vice-Chancellor of TaTU, Prof. Bashiru Ibn Moro Saeed, highlighted the university’s critical role in equipping graduates in the Northern region with employable skills and fostering job creation to meet industry demands.
He noted that the university currently offers 40 Bachelor’s degree programmes, 18 Master’s degree, 21 Higher National Diplomas (HND), 15 Diplomas in Technology, 8 Professional Diplomas, and 26 certificate programmes. Additionally, TaTU has secured accreditation for 11 new programmes to commence in the next academic year.
Prof. Saeed also underscored the university’s commitment to infrastructure development using internally generated funds (IGF). He announced that in collaboration with Access Bank Ghana Plc., the university is constructing a multi-purpose lecture hall to enhance teaching and learning. Furthermore, TaTU is partnering with the British Council to strengthen its agriculture and skills development programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated TaTU’s dedication to enhancing the skills and capacity of its staff to ensure quality education delivery. He emphasised the university’s goal of becoming a leader in vocational education, applied research and agricultural development.
Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shaibu Alhassan Shaibu, represented by the Municipal Chief Executive, Mohammed Yakubu Ahmed, commended TaTU for producing quality graduates ready for the job market; and for developing entrepreneurship programmes that empower youths to create self-employment opportunities. He encouraged the graduates to utilise their knowledge to foster economic growth.
The Chairperson of TaTU’s Governing Council, Dr. Alhassan Emil Abdulai, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to shaping young minds by equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate a rapidly evolving world. He urged the graduates to embrace innovation and technology to meet industry demands, adding that TaTU would remain a leader in technical and vocational education, applied research and social transformation.
