The 1984 year group of the Anlo Senior High School (ANSECO) are set to raise funds in support of the reconstruction of the school’s academic block.
The fund-raising dinner night seeks to raise GH₵3million and will be held at the Kempinski Hotel, Gold Coast City-Accra on 26 October 2024, and is also in the recognition of the year-groups’ 40th anniversary.
According to Dr. Gideon Amenyedor – school prefect of the 1984-year group – during a press conference held in Accra on Monday, the gesture’s aim is to emphasise the importance of giving back to one’s old school, further stressing the need for togetherness among students even after completion.
“It is very necessary for old students to keep communicating after school. This makes it easier for collaboration when giving back to the alma mater. We have joined the new wave sweeping across the country, reinforcing the need for old students to come together and give back to their schools.”
Despite ANSECO being the oldest secondary cycle school in the whole southern Volta and all its high academic laurels, Dr. Amenyedor however described the school as a straggling one when it comes to basic infrastructural facilities befitting a government-assisted secondary school.
He said: “Undoubtedly, the Free Senior High School concept has increased school enrolments; but the accompanying infrastructure such as classrooms, science laboratories and dormitories do not support such an increase”.
Emphasising other aims for the fund-raising dinner night, Dr. Amenyedor said it will also be an opportunity to highlight the Volta coastline’s bad state from Anyanui through Anloga – where the school is – to Keta and all the way to Aflao.
Applauding political parties, religious bodies and Non- Governmental Organisations helping to alleviate the affected people, he stressed that a lot need must be done to find a permanent solution for the problem.
Reiterating the poor state of ANSECO, he extended an invitation to all individuals and organisations who have benefitted from the school to join them during the event and contribute generously to rebuilding the school.
The Headmaster, Wisdom Adeti, also expressed worry about the school’s infrastructural challenges and stressed the need for students to have comfort in their place of study.
Mr. Adeti then urged all stakeholders to come together in supporting the school’s development.
