In a move to enhance entrepreneurship and financial literacy among students, Hollard Ghana hosted its third entrepreneurship mentorship seminar at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) in Sunyani.

The event, dubbed the “Hollard Streetwise Finance Mentoring Day,” attracted over 500 students eager to gain practical insights into managing their financial futures.

The one-day seminar focused on bridging the gap between academic theory and real-world applications. Students engaged in discussions covering crucial topics such as understanding first job finances, managing risks, saving and investing, and excelling in job interviews. These sessions aimed to equip attendees with the knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of financial independence post-graduation.

Bridging the gap between academia and industry

Prof. Samuel Fosu Gyasi, Dean of the School of Sciences at UENR, who opened the seminar emphasized the necessity of such initiatives, stating, “In the face of a saturated job market, students must leverage seminars like this to acquire essential skills and knowledge that will enhance their competitiveness.” This he noted, reflects the growing need for students to transition smoothly from academic life to the professional realm.

The keynote address was delivered by Stephen Atuah Oppong, a supply chain expert who encouraged students to embrace determination as a cornerstone of success. “Apply yourself to every opportunity that comes your way,” he advised, stressing the importance of diligent effort in achieving professional goals, and inspired the students to take proactive steps in their career journeys.

Hollard’s commitment to future leaders

Ms. Cynthia Ofori-Dwumfuo, Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at Hollard, highlighted the company’s dedication to fostering better futures through education and mentorship. She praised the ongoing partnership with UENR, which has yielded fruitful outcomes over the past three years. “Our collaboration focuses on empowering students and developing their skills for the future job market,” Ms. Ofori-Dwumfuo noted.

“The third entrepreneurship mentorship seminar not only underscored Hollard Ghana’s commitment to education but also equipped students with essential financial skills necessary for success in today’s competitive landscape. As the partnership between Hollard and UENR continues to grow, the impact of this initiative is sure to resonate throughout the community and beyond,” she added.

In December 2021, Hollard Ghana formalized its commitment to student development by signing a memorandum of understanding with UENR. This partnership, known as “Hollard X Academia,” includes mentorship clinics and recognition of outstanding students with awards, including a valedictorian prize for exemplary achievements.
