…marking a milestone in sustainable banking

Access Bank (Ghana) Plc has taken a significant step forward in its sustainability journey by transitioning its ATMs to solar power. This initiative aligns with the bank’s commitment to environmental stewardship and reducing its carbon footprint.

The newly installed solar-powered ATMs, piloted at three of its offsite ATMs located at Castle Road, Ashaiman, and Burma Camp, will operate 80% on solar energy, significantly decreasing electrical energy consumption. Each ATM is equipped with a 5kWh capacity solar panel system and 14.3 kWh lithium batteries, which will collectively reduce energy consumption by an impressive 432 kWh.

“We are excited to announce this major milestone in our sustainability efforts,” said Pearl Nkrumah, Executive Director of Retail & Digital Banking at Access Bank (Ghana) Plc.

“By harnessing solar energy to power our ATMs, we are not only reducing our environmental impact but also setting a benchmark for sustainable practices in the banking industry. By 2025, we will expand our solar energy program to all our offsite ATMs, further reducing our carbon footprint and promoting a cleaner environment, she added”

This move towards solar-powered ATMs underscores Access Bank’s dedication to innovation and sustainable development. The bank continues to lead the way in integrating environmentally friendly solutions into its operations, reflecting its core values of leadership, excellence, and passion for customers.

In addition to the environmental benefits, the transition to solar energy ensures greater reliability and operational efficiency of ATMs, providing uninterrupted service to customers while contributing to the overall energy savings.
