The Chief Corporate Service and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, has indicated that they are collaborating with the National Communications Authority (NCA) to address the issue of pre-registered SIM cards.
Additionally, she stated that they are also scrutinising their internal systems and would address any problems that they find.
“So, with the sale of pre-registered SIM cards, we are collaborating with the NCA to address the problem. But in turn, we are also looking at our systems if there are any issues and who will resolve the issues from our side. But, then, we also need the NCA to be able to address that,” she said.
She outlined the specific measures taken to resolve the issue while speaking on the sidelines during the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications’ visit to MTN Ghana.
Regarding the current data pricing, she said: “I think NCA has come out to explain that there was a reason why we have the data structure the way it is, and that is to improve on competition”.
She added that NCA, as regulator, is performing its obligation; and they (MTN), as a company in the industry, have to comply and collaborate on issues as such.
Ms. Wiafe further explained that the committee’s visit was intended to get an update on MTN’s network service management and monitoring practices as well as the steps taken to enhance the calibre of services provided to clients.
Other issues discussed included fraudulent activities, cyber-security and the steps taken to curb them.
