Ghanaian ride-hailing platform Tap n’ Go is set to rollout a new feature that aims to provide drivers with a more profitable earning model, the company has announced.

The service, is slated to be introduced by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and is expected to transform the earnings landscape for drivers in Accra and Kumasi.

The launch follows a pilot phase that began on December 16, 2023. The pilot saw the technical team make key adjustments based on driver feedback, resulting in an improved system designed to be both user-friendly and lucrative for drivers.

“The decision to set the driver commission at 12 percent came after extensive consultations with drivers, including those from the GPRTU and private sectors,” said Simon Martey, Tap n’ Go’s Business Development Manager. “We believe this will significantly boost their earnings and improve their quality of life.”

The ride-hailing feature reduces the commission rate for drivers while offering several additional benefits. Drivers can expect to earn up to GHȼ6,000, with top performers potentially making over GHȼ18,000. Furthermore, 1 percent of the commission will be allocated to driver SSNIT or welfare plans, ensuring a secure retirement. The platform also includes loyalty rewards and other incentives to encourage driver retention and satisfaction.

This initiative aligns with the government’s agenda to develop a local ride-hailing app that caters specifically to the needs of Ghanaian drivers, addressing concerns over high rates charged by foreign ride-share companies.

With the official launch imminent, Tap n’ Go aims to make a significant impact on local transportation sector.

The app’s driver-focused approach and innovative features are expected to attract a substantial number of new drivers, enhancing overall efficiency and service quality.
