In a bid to combat the growing threat of cybercrime, the Mother of All Nations Foundation, in collaboration with Salzic Global Limited and the Global Fund for Children, recently hosted the inaugural Africa NGO Cybersecurity Training.
The event, themed “Empowering NGOs for a Safer Digital Tomorrow: Protect Your Impact,” saw participation from 50 representatives of 40 NGOs across Africa.
During the programme, the Executive Director of the Mother of All Nations Foundation, Mr. Ishaq Abubakar Zico Newton, underscored the importance of cybersecurity for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), likening it to the fundamental role of accounting principles in organizations.
“In this rapidly advancing digital age, safeguarding our data is essential to sustain our impact,” Newton stated.
The programme aimed to equip NGOs with the necessary skills to prioritize cybersecurity in the evolving digital landscape. By doing so, NGOs can protect themselves, their partners, beneficiaries, and the overall impact of their work.
According to Mr. Newton, this initiative is particularly timely, given that experts estimate an alarming 11 percent annual increase in cybercrime since 2018, with a significant portion attributed to human error.
The Co-Founder of Coldsis IT Solutions, Engineer Yakubu Lantam Abdul-Jabar, echoed Newton’s sentiments, highlighting the vulnerabilities NGOs face in cyberspace.
Abdul-Jabar urged NGO leaders to prioritize continuous training for employees to mitigate threats and intrusions that could jeopardize their finances and data.
The project, in partnership with Coldsis IT Solutions, Quran Klink, Express Phenomenon, and Thenewgh Multimedia, is committed to making this a continuous effort, ensuring NGOs across Africa can navigate the digital world with confidence and security.
