Acclaimed auditing and consulting firm KPMG Ghana has handed over a newly equipped Information Communication Technology (ICT) lab to the Abelenkpe 1 Basic School, as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting education and lifelong learning in the community.

This initiative, Senior Partner Anthony Sarpong at the handing ceremony in Accra, said underscores KPMG’s dedication to fostering development through education.

“We believe that education and lifelong learning are important elements that help to develop human beings. And when you develop human beings through education, you are developing communities and our nation,” he said.

Since 2019, KPMG Ghana has been collaborating with Abelenkpe 1 Basic School, investing in various infrastructural improvements. These efforts have included upgrading kindergarten facilities, enhancing washroom infrastructure, and now, establishing a fully equipped ICT lab.

“When we go to a school, we partner with them over a number of years. This journey started around 2019, and today we are handing over the ICT lab,” Mr. Sarpong explained.

He emphasised that the ICT lab is a critical addition to the school as it provides students with the opportunity to embrace technology and digital learning, essential skills in today’s world.

“It allows the learners to begin to imbibe technology and digitisation learning, which is part of the generation that they are born into.

“This way, we give them the education to build their skills in computer and technology so that when they finish their education, they can contribute to our nation-building in Ghana and the world at large,” he added.

The lab is equipped with modern laptops for students, a projector for facilitators, and air conditioning to maintain a conducive learning environment. Currently, the lab accommodates 36 students, with plans to expand to a 40-seat capacity in the future.

Headmistress of Abelenkpe 1 Basic School, Enyonam Ami Dovlo Tay, expressed her gratitude for KPMG’s contributions while highlighting the critical role of digital literacy in today’s world and the importance of providing students with the necessary tools to succeed.

“We are so grateful to KPMG. They have been beneficial to the school. These computers will go a long way to help our learners, equipping and empowering them for the future,” she said.

She said despite the new resources, the school still faces challenges and requires further support.

“We put these resources to excellent use, but we still expect more. The school is still in dire need of a lot of resources,” she said mentioning issues like the school’s gates and the need for additional resources to enhance the learning environment.
