Newmont donates 3 vehicles to Ghana Armed Forces

As part of its corporate social responsibility, Newmont Africa has donated three brand new Toyota Hilux pickup vehicles, valued at GH¢1.7 million to the Ghana Armed Forces’ Ahafo Command.

The three vehicles will enhance mobility of military deployment in the Ahafo Region to bolster peace and security of that part of the country. The gesture is in line with Newmont’s priority of promoting safety and security of employees and host communities.

Speaking during a short handing over ceremony at Goaso, Ahafo Regional Capital, Alex Kofi Annin, General Manager- Newmont Ahafo South Mine said “Newmont is deeply committed to supporting personnel of the security agencies who work tirelessly to safeguard our borders and ensure our safety. The donation of the vehicles is an expression of our unwavering support for the security agencies.”

“By providing these essential resources, we hope to contribute to the creation of a safer and more secure environment for every citizen in the Ahafo region and Ghana as a whole. It is our hope that these vehicles will serve as an efficient enabler to you and reinforce our collaboration to creating a safer environment and future for our people,” he added.

The Ahafo Regional Minister, George Boakye and Brigadier General Michael Opoku, the General Officer Commanding-Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces received the vehicles.

The Regional Minister said provision of security is a shared responsibility and therefore commended Newmont for complementing government’s effort in providing the relevant resources to build peace and security in the Ahafo Region and the country as a whole.

On his part, Brigadier General Michael Opoku thanked Newmont for the support, indicating that the vehicles would enhance military patrol operations in the Ahafo enclave.

Also present at the handing over ceremony were Campbell Corrigan, Newmont’s Group Head of Security, and Samuel Osei, Communications Manager, Newmont Ahafo South Mine.
