Enterprise Computing Ltd. (ECL) has put a foot forward in advancing medical research in Ghana. The IT firm has made a significant donation of equipment to the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) to support research and education.

The firm’s initiative was in direct response to the university’s mandate of establishing and furnishing the largest laboratory complex in the sub-region. ECL donated a fully-fitted workstation, a cabinet, a printer with toners, an external hard drive and other essential office set-up items. These donations were specifically directed to the School of Medicine at UHAS, with the aim of facilitating groundbreaking research in various health-related fields.

“ECL is committed to leveraging technology to advance the delivery of healthcare, with a focus on realising a future where quality healthcare becomes a reality for Africa. It is for this reason ECL is committed to helping UHAS in establishing this research facility. We hope that these items will be put to maximum use, and UHAS can count on our unending commitment to supporting medical research and education,” said Cionilda Esi Cudjoe, Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Enterprise Computing Ltd.

The firm also assured the university of its continued support in establishing a well-equipped research facility, providing technical guidance and mentoring. This will ensure that the school’s interest in Telemedicine, Machine Learning, Robotics and Disease Modelling sees the light of day.

The Vice Chancellor of UHAS, Prof. Lydia Aziato, along with other faculty members, expressed gratitude to ECL on behalf of the university. She acknowledged the substantial boost the donation would provide to their research efforts. She also emphasised the importance of offering students tech mentoring, training, software support and a robust database management solution to facilitate efficient research data management.

Key individuals present were the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Harry Tagbor; the Dean of the School of Medicine, Prof. Frank Edwin; and the Registrar of UHAS, Yaa Amankwaa Opuni. Additionally, serving as primary liaisons between the ECL team and UHAS were Prof. Ali Mahamudu Ayamba, Director of Quality Assurance, and Dr. Mawuenyo Oyortey, Senior Lecturer, Department of Surgery – School of Medicine.
