Traders and commercial drivers at Goaso New Market, Dormaa Old Lorry Station and Wenchi have benefitted from a free medical screening organised by ASA Savings and Loans Limited. They were screened for various ailments – such as blood pressure, hepatitis B, diabetes, malaria, among others – to ensure that they are fit to go about their daily activities since most of them are clients of the company.
Free treated mosquito nets were given to them for malaria prevention as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR).
ASA Savings and Loans has, however, designated this period to cater for the health needs of these traders to prevent the situation of those with serious health conditions from deteriorating.
Goaso
A trader, Felicia Esam, praised ASA for screening them at their door step at their trade area. “Most of us here find it very difficult to leave our goods and food stuffs to go and seek medical attention elsewhere. This is timely, as it has enabled most of us to know our health status now and what we can do to ensure good and a healthy life style. We have also benefitted from the screening exercise as we have been given medications and advice on our health conditions at our comfort.”
Dr. Samuel Asante, Head of the Medical Team at the Divine Love Hospital, mentioned that 149 people were screened out of which five were newly diagnosed of high blood pressure, four had high sugar levels, 15 tested positive to malaria as three tested positive for hepatitis B. However, a total number 122, representing 82 percent were deemed generally fit.

The Area Manager for ASA in the domain, Emmanuel Opare-Yeboah, explained that the event is in line with the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility in supporting communities.
The Branch Manager at Goaso, Solomon Adongo, also added: “This is not the first time we are doing this for our clients. Sometimes some of them find it difficult to visit the hospitals because they cannot leave their businesses; so with this, it helps them and the impact has been great”.
Dormaa Old Lorry Station
The event, which is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) annually, had the participants screened for eye ailments, blood pressure, hepatitis B, diabetes, malaria, among others.
The head of the medical team at the Presby Hospital, Madam Veronica Addae, disclosed after the exercise that 173 people were screened of which 45 had high blood pressure, 15 had high sugar levels, 7 tested positive to malaria, and 145 had eye allergy conjunctivitis.
However, 106 of the total number, representing 61.25 percent, were deemed generally safe; and all those with symptoms of certain diseases were given medications while others were given medical advice to take their medication to the last dosage.

The Branch Manager at Dormaa, Mr. Eric Asamoah, also added: “This is not the first time we are doing this for our clients. Wenchi
Also, it was all joy at Wenchi, where traders and the community people were medically screened for free as well as given free treated mosquito nets for malaria prevention.
The corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity, fully funded by the financial institution, had the participants screened for blood pressure, hepatitis B, diabetes, malaria, among others.
Some of the traders said they have benefitted from the screening exercise as they have been given medications and advice on their health conditions at their comfort.
The Head of the Medical Team from Kintampo Municipal Hospital, Mrs. Abigail Sarpomaa Akenten, disclosed after the exercise that 126 people were screened; of which three had high blood pressure, two had high sugar levels, two tested positive for malaria and four tested positives for hepatitis B.
However, 115, representing 91.43 percent of the total number, were deemed generally safe.
