…invests GH¢200k on CSR

Management of Serene Insurance Limited has hosted a festival of nine lessons and carols and feted inmates of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital. The gesture also includes an investment of GH¢200,000 toward renovation and donation of relief items to the hospital.

Chief Executive of Serene Insurance Mercy Naa Koshie Boampong, at the ceremony, explained that, Serene Insurance Limited has always believed in the power of giving back to communities.

“We have come together not only to celebrate the season of joy and love with the inmates who are our neighbours within the company’s operational community, but also to engage management of the hospital to see how we can make life better for the inmates,” she said.

She said the gesture by Serene Insurance symbolises its commitment to making a difference in the lives of those who need it the most. “These items, no matter how small, will contribute toward creating a more comfortable and conducive environment for the patients and staff here.”

Ms. Boampong acknowledged the importance of providing support and care to those in need. She indicated that mental health is crucial to the country’s overall well-being, and it is everyone’s duty to ensure that those who are on the path to recovery receive the love, compassion and assistance they require.

Serene Insurance, according to her, will continue to impact society positively in order to create a lasting change. The company noted it will provide the hospital with potable water and other basic needs in 2024.

Head Pastor of Word Alive Assemblies of God, Rev. Maxwell Incoom, called on Christians to exhibit behaviours that would be a blessing to others not only in this festive season, but at all times. He said the gesture by Serene Insurance is worth emulating, particularly the category of people the company decided to impact and show compassion.

Medical Director of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Kojo Marfo Obeng, expressed appreciation to Serene Insurance for the kind gesture and said the donation would offer great relieve to the inmates. He said the hospital is a population that feels stigmatised, neglected and marginalised most often by the public. “Management, inmates and nurses are all painted with one brush, and that is unfortunately a situation of stigma.”

He, however, said gestures from entities such as from Serene Insurance offer a long-term hope to the inmates.

Officials present at the event were the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Serene Insurance Limited, the Executive Chairman of the First Sky Group, Directors of Serene Insurance Limited, Medical Director of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Management and Staff of Serene Insurance Limited, and the Accra Psychiatric Hospital staff.
