It was a Midas touch at first

Midas touched the dust first

That Midas touch

Turned that dust into diamonds

That stone into silver

That sand into gold

That Midas touch

That was many prospering years ago!

II

As they held the fort

Inside the Fort

Many threw their all into the mill

Many worked from a heart with a will

As they had a turn inside the Fort

Many they were who had their turn

to prove what they could

That was many experimenting years ago!

Samid gave of his best

But his best turned less than enough

So did Madis

His worse had been his best

So was Dimas

His works were far from his words

As the last followed the first

The last performed just as the first

As the first and the last joined the rest

Their best was still not good enough

That was many sliding years ago!

As many saw things get worse

A call was made for new hands on deck

Many wrote their names to try their hands

For the job inside the Fort was up for grabs

Up for grabs to make things work again

Many raised their heads to rise above the rest

One head rose above all the rest

One hand lifted to its highest

One voice shouted its loudest

“Put me to the test!”

“What my head dreams of

My hands deliver…in droves

Where my hand touches

There the gold turns riches

There the riches reap a paradise

Where I spread the riches

There no one is famished

Put me to the test!”

Many there were

Who had wondered

Why not put him to the test?

Let his best be tested

For he has shouted his loudest

Many more there were

Who had seen his hand raise

Many more there were

Who had seen his head lift

Many more there were

Who had heard his voice sound

“Put me to the test!”

Many were there

When Damis was put to the test

You and I

We were there

When he was put to the test!

IV

Times were…when Midas touched the dust

Dust turned diamonds

Diamonds brought forth sparkling returns

Times were…when Midas touched the stone

Stone turned gold

Gold turned towards the Golden Coast

V

Times are…when Damis touches diamonds

Diamonds turn dust

Silver turns stone

Gold turns sand

More turns less

Damis damages

Damis dims the dreams

Damis touches to turn debts into deaths…into dreaded depths

Damis drives into a deep ditch…into dreaded ends

Damis dives into the steepest abyss

Abysmally!

Damis was put to the test

That was just in recent years!
