The Association of Ghana Industries-Energy Service Centre (AGI-ESC) has partnered the Institute of Energy Professionals Africa (IEPA) to deploy Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Certification programmes and other IEPA training opportunities in Ghana.
The move falls in line with AGI-ESC’s mandate to promote energy efficiency, renewable energy practices and technologies among commercial and industrial companies, which could help reduce energy costs for businesses.
This also comes in handy as the country requires certified energy professionals to champion making renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions readily available and accessible to industrial and commercial users, and also to fuel Ghana’s quest of achieving a 10 percent renewable energy component in the national energy mix by 2030.
With this partnership, interested persons can be trained and certified here in Ghana.
“Having the possibility to train certified engineers here in Ghana is a big step. Before, it was possible – but you would have to do it online or travel to the United States (US) to be trained. But now we can have trainers come here through this partnership,” noted Chief Technical Advisor at AGI-ESC, Barbel Freyer.
With the whole world going green, this training and certification, she is confident, will open up employment opportunities for energy professionals in the carbon and emission savings-energy efficiency industry.
“If I look at the fact that you only have four certified professionals in Ghana that can work in this industry, then I think this partnership is crucial and needs to be developed – because we need them to mentor the youths to get younger people into the industry. The future for green generation and green energy use lies with the youth, and we need certified professionals to mentor them and implement projects,” said Executive Director-IEPA, Yolanda De Lange.
IEPA has been delivering AEE certification programmes in the sub-Saharan African region for almost 20 years.
Certification programmes will include Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP), Certified Renewable Energy Professional (REP), Certified Water Efficiency Professional (CWEP), Certified Carbon Auditing Professional (CAP), Certified Industrial Energy Professional (CIEP), Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP) and Certified Business Energy Professional (BEP).
The AGI-ESC and IEPA partnership brings these certifications closer to the doorsteps of energy professionals in Ghana. All programmes are available for in-person or online training and examination in the country, with trainers and content quality controlled by IEPA.
AEE has a global presence in over 100 countries, with 18,000+ professionals holding over 32,000+ certifications. The IEPA is based in South Africa and represents AEE in sub-Saharan Africa. It deploys AEE Certification programmes in partnership with training providers across the region, including South Africa, Nigeria, Mauritius, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania.

The event was also used to officially outdoor the Association of Energy Professionals Ghana (AEPG).
Founded in 2019, the Association is a non-profit professional society affiliated with the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), USA.
It seeks to promote the scientific and educational interests of those engaged in the energy industry, and to foster action for Sustainable Development in Ghana.
