Yinson Ghana, the owners and operators of the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit, John Agyekum Kufour, has won the most outstanding CSR company at the 2023 Local Content Conference and Exhibition ‘Awards Night’ held in Takoradi.
The maiden awards night is part of the Petroleum Commissions effort to celebrate the achievements and contributions made by Upstream Petroleum Companies toward the development of local content in Ghana.
Yinson was also nominated for two other award categories, Outstanding Training and Capacity-Building and Outstanding Local Content Initiative.
The annual Local Content Conference addressed key issues within the upstream petroleum industry, emphasising the maximisation of local business, workforce and resource involvement. The primary objectives were to promote economic development, skills transfer and overall sustainability in Ghana’s petroleum activities.
Yinson has invested and continues to invest in the communities in which it operates within the Western enclave, especially on education. One of Yinson’s core CSR missions is to promote quality education and effective learning.
Some of Yinson’s social investment programmes includes the Yinson Girls Education Programme. This annual programme positively impacts about 750 female students from Upper Primary to Junior High levels in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region by reducing poor academic performance due to period poverty.
The programme also aims at improving Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) studies among females in the municipality.
To facilitate the learning of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Yinson has provided a computer lab and organises ICT lessons for teachers bimonthly. The next computer laboratory will be commissioned in quarter one of 2024.
Yinson also organises phonics training programme for teachers in the Ahanta West Municipality. This programme impacts about 170 teachers annually.
There is also the Yinson Scholars Programme, which provides scholarships for students at the Senior High School and undergraduate levels.
