6th Agrofood Ghana Exposition held in Accra

According to the World Trade Organisation, WTO, West African food imports reached around US$19billion in 2021.

West Africa ‘s largest food importers, behind Nigeria, were Côte d ‘Ivoire with US$3.1billion; followed by Senegal with US$2.1billion; Ghana and Benin with US$1.2billion each; and Cameroon with US$1billion.

Thus, food trade with West Africa is a US$40billion business.

It is against this background that the 6th edition of agrofood Ghana – rebranded from agrofood West Africa – was organised by AHK Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana and Fairtrade, and took place at the Trade Centre Arena, Accra International Conference Centre from November 21 – 23 themed ‘Boosting Trade with Ghana’.

Agrofood Ghana is Ghana’s leading trade show & conference on agriculture, food & beverage technology, food ingredients and food.

The exposition’s highlight was the African Agribusiness Excellence and Leadership Awards 2023, with the Most Influential African Agribusiness CEO of the Year going to Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong-Executive Chairman, Jospong Group of Companies; and the Outstanding Agriculture Research Leadership Personality of the Year going to Prof. Eric Yirenkyi Danquah, Founding Director-West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana.

The Outstanding Trade Commissioner Promoting Agribusiness Trade in Africa of the Year went to Italian Trade Commissioner West Africa, Alessandro Gerbino; while the Outstanding African Agribusiness Woman CEO of the Year went to Dr. Agnes Kalibata, President-AGRA.

Outstanding African Agribusiness Woman-Led Commercial Farm of the Year went to Elorm Goh, Executive Director-Agrisolve Ghana Limited; and the Outstanding Organisation Supporting Agribusiness Policy in Africa went to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation.

Outstanding African Agribusiness Commodities Company of the Year went to the Ghana Commodity Exchange, while Excellence in Greenhouse Innovation Technology was given to Agri-impact Limited.

From €59million in 2017 to €112million in 2021, Ghana’s imports of food & beverage technology showed an annual increase of 17% between 2017 and 2021. (VDMA).
