PR practitioners urged to uphold integrity, be data-driven

Public Relations practitioners have been urged to uphold integrity in their line of duty and be data-driven to remain relevant in whichever sector they find themselves.

The seasoned professionals who gave this advice at the PR Legends Night, themed ‘Legacy Builders, Shaping PR Excellence for the Future’, held in Accra, also highlighted the importance of truth, acquiring the necessary knowledge and confidence to practitioners.

Upholding these values, Accomplished PR professional, Vicky Wireko Andoh said will enable them to stay on top of issues.

“If you present these these values –truth, integrity, and confidence – you will go far. You must put your best foot forward and have integrity and be consistent,” she said.

She added that it is important for practitioners to remember that companies want deep and not trivial persons to represent their brands.

In terms of crisis management, she pointed out that it is always a better option, to tell the truth, and explain rather than cover up, which could go a long way to hunt the institution later.

For, president of the African Institute of Extractive Industries, Dr. Toni Aubynn, practitioners must be willing to learn and understand their respective fields even if it is not in line with earlier studies, saying “nothing beats competence”.

He added that continuous learning is critical to mastering one’s art and positioning their organisations as better brand.

He challenged the practitioners to lead their organisation to take on meaningful social projects by putting in place a framework that will influence lives and support the underprivileged.

Dr. Toni Aubynn also stressed on developing a strong personal brand as a practitioner.

Former President of IPR-Ghana Elaine Sam, noted that building a legacy and shaping PR excellence for the future requires one to be distinguished from the crowd and to demonstrate their relevance and key contributions to the success of their space.

Other participants underscored the essence of strategic planning to stay ahead of matters, being a good listener, and being cool, calm, and collected in the face of challenges.

The PR Legends Night put together by the Institute of Public Relations Ghana (1PR) brought together seasoned professionals, emerging talents, and industry enthusiasts and offered an invaluable opportunity for participants to draw from the wealth of experience and insights in the PR industry.
