…discusses ‘Responsible Use of Technology and Social Media’
Sustineri Attorneys PRUC, Ghana’s foremost start-up and technology focused law firm has organize an outreach programme as part of its Community Engagement Initiative (CEI) on ‘Responsible use of technology and social media; the role of Ghanaian youth in a digital age’ at the International Community School (ICS) in Accra.
The event was used to educate students on the responsible use of technology and social media in the digital era. In this age where technology and social media have become integral parts of our daily life, young people are increasingly exposed to risks and opportunities and require the awareness and guidance to drive maximum benefits from the use of technology and social media.
In highlighting the significance of the outreach, Mr. Richard Nunekpeku underscored the importance of providing young people with the guidance, dos, and don’ts to ensure they responsibly use available digital platforms.
Mr. Nunekpeku noted, “while we appreciate the enormous benefit of technology and its use cases, online safety is becoming a paramount concern particularly for young people. And we all have the responsibility to ensure we promote responsible use of these technology and ensure we limit the associate risks.”
Lawyer Cecilia Antwi Kyem and Lawyer Harold Kwabena Fearon, Associates of Sustineri Attorneys took the students through presentations on ‘Technology and use of Social Media’ and ‘Data Protection in the digital era’ respectively. These presentations highlighted the advantages and disadvantages of the emerging digital platforms and provided checklists for how students can protect themselves against distractions, cyberbullying, fraud, and data breaches among others.
On behalf of ICS, Mawuenyegah Kofi Diaba, Head of Secondary expressed the school’s gratitude for the initiative and highlighted the importance of educating students on these emerging issues particularly social media and the use of technology.
Sustineri Attorneys PRUC promises to extend this outreach to other schools within its locality and help promote the responsible use of social media and technology among young people. In attendance were lawyers and administrative staff of the firm.
