Over 1,000 female students across various disciplines, including engineering, science, business management, fashion design and catering, get hands-on experience and valuable insights for their future careers.

Margaret Thatcher once said, “If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman.” In recognition of the pivotal role that women play in society, EmpUW (Empowering Upcoming Women), a NGO (Non-Governmental Organization), proudly launched the “SheUnimpeded” initiative at ATU (Accra Technical University).

Acknowledging the challenges women face due to limiting societal norms, the SheUnimpeded initiative connects aspiring young women in tertiary education with experienced career professionals. This initiative empowers the younger women with industry skills, wisdom and support to achieve their goals, enabling them to reach their full potential.

“This initiative represents a significant step towards creating a world where women can achieve their goals and ambitions without restraint. I firmly believe that the journey to success should be unimpeded for all. SheUnimpeded is a testament to the fact that when women support women, we can break down barriers, shatter glass ceilings and accomplish anything we set our minds to. The commitment and dedication of role models and volunteer coaches who believe in the potential of these young women have made this initiative possible,” stated EmpUW’s Founding Director, Ms. Dorcas Dare.

“Living in an era where gender equality is not just a lofty ideal but a necessity for the advancement of society, the empowerment of upcoming women is not merely a matter of social justice, it is an economic imperative that has become a critical priority.

The untapped potential of women in every sector, from technology and business to science and the arts, can be a game-changer for the global economy. By ensuring that women have equal opportunities to thrive and succeed, my office has opened its doors to the SheUnimpeded Initiative, under the auspices of EmpUW, to coach and empower all female students toward success to unprecedented heights”, the Dean of Students’ Affairs of Accra Technical University, Mr. Martin Amoamah, added.
