Nubuke Foundation showcases craftsmanship at Somerset House

0

Nubuke Foundation will present woven fabrics, furniture and textile and multimedia artworks in this year’s Special Projects section in 1:54 London at Somerset House from 12 to 15 October 2023.

We showcase the remarkable craftmanship and innovation realised through design intervention workshops and artistic residencies between the Nubuke Foundation Centre for Textiles and Clay in Wa, creative individuals, professionals, researchers, Women’s Weaving Associations and the students from the Blind School in the Upper West region of Ghana.

Also showing will be the artworks of AFROSCOPE, Alice Raymond and Kwaku Opoku who reinterpret centuries-old indigenous knowledge; use digital technology to connect woven strips to music; translate and re-present climatic information through colour and motifs.

Visitors are invited to re-examine their perceptions and engagement with textiles and art.

Fair opens at 11:00am on Thursday 12 October and continues until Sunday, 15 October 2023.
