The male Football team of the National Investment Bank (NIB), Investors FC, have made the bank proud once again by winning this year’s Bankers’ Football League, having put up a sterling performance to clinch victory by defeating CAL Bank two (2) goals to nil in a fierce competition. Maxwell Essuman, the striker scored the first goal within the first ten minutes of play in the first half. The second goal was realized in the 18th minute through a penalty by Kweku Ghansah. In all, Investors FC scored a total of twenty-eight (28) goals to retain the trophy for the third year running.
The league took place at La McDan Park in Accra. The participating banks in this year’s league were; National Investment Bank (NIB), Bank of Ghana (BoG), Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), and Stanbic Bank. The rest were, First National Bank (FNB), Consolidated Bank of Ghana (CBG), CAL Bank and Access Bank PLC. The tournament started on the 1st of July 2023 and the final match was played on Saturday, 19th August 2023 between NIB’s Investors FC and CAL Bank.
Stanbic Bank, put up a sturdy performance in the open match with NIB but luck eluded them as they struggled hard to redeem themselves from the unsurmountable defeat from Investors FC. Investors FC dominating the game with their teamwork and tactical expertise, scored one (1) goal to nil. The assistant captain, Kweku Ghansah, who had been the architect of almost all the incursions by the team scored the one goal to clinch victory for NIB to increase their tally.
NIB’S Investors FC initially occupied the top position in the league table but were down in the 4th and 5th weeks of the tournament. However, the team regained its position of dominance to lift the Coveted trophy home. CAL bank who came second, put up a spirited performance to snatch the league, but could not see the light of day.
The Deputy Managing Director of NIB, Mr Tweneboa Kodua Fokuo who received the trophy on behalf of the bank at the Headquarters, on 29th August, 2023, congratulated the team for bringing the trophy and raising the NIB brand high.
He said the corner stone of success in every competition is team work, discipline, collaboration and determination. He assured the team of management willingness to reward their selflessness, hard work and commitment to the NIB brand.
Investors FC thank management for supporting the team over the years and the acknowledgment of their effort in winning the trophy three times in a row.
