The third edition of the Ghana Digital Innovation Week (GDIW) is scheduled to take place between the 6th and 8th November, 2023 in Accra.

The GDIW is a platform that seeks to create an enabling environment for micro-enterprises to use digital transformation to strengthen their sustainability. It allows various actors to learn, share ideas and create connections to enhance the progress of the landscape.

The event is co-created by international partners and government agencies, including the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), Israel’s Agency for International Development (AID), the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI) and the Ministry of Communication and Digitalization (MoCD), among others.

This year’s event is on the theme ‘Innovate, Collaborate, Elevate: Shaping a Future of Endless Potential’.

GDIW endeavours to identify a common national vision that drives Ghana’s digital innovation agenda, generates wide interest, and prompts concrete action. It will also mobilise diverse digital innovation ecosystem stakeholders toward a more collaborative and inclusive ecosystem development.

Special Advisor to the Minister – MESTI, Oliver Boakye, in his remarks at the launch in Accra, mentioned that it is important to leverage the huge potential that Ghana has when it comes to science, technology and innovation for economic transformation.

“The trilateral relation among Ghana, Israel and Germany is an initiative that started in 2019 and the whole idea was that our development partners – particularly Israel and Germany – recognised the huge potential that Ghana has to leverage on innovation which will drive our national development agenda. Their commitment to supporting Ghana in harnessing this potential is pragmatic and the reason for the trilateral cooperation programme,” he said.

Mr. Boakye underscored the role that the platform has played over the two previous editions in contributing to Ghana’s jump from 132nd to 95th position in the Global Innovation Index (GII).

Head of project – Digital Transformation Centre at GIZ Ghana, David Robert, on his part, said: “We are involving participants from across Ghana to ensure that the Digital Innovation Week promotes discourse on enhancing digital literacy and adoption, particularly in remote areas of Ghana where access to digital tools is a challenge”.

The last two years of the event has witnessed over 6,000 attendees, 96 exhibitors and 60 insightful sessions led by ecosystem actors.

GDIW will kick off with regional events in Tamale, Koforidua and Kumasi, leading up to the three-day finale in Greater Accra.

It will host over 30 sessions nationwide, featuring presentations and innovative displays from influential digital leaders and key players in the innovation ecosystem.
