Businesses in Africa are said to be a breadth away from being hit by cyber-attacks.
DELL, an American-based technology company estimates that over 90 percent of African businesses operate without a cyber-security protocol.
It is also estimated that 61 percent of companies on the continent alone suffered from cyber-attacks in 2020, contributing to US$4billion loss every year.
While Internet penetration in Africa is increasing at a faster rate, the development of digital sphere in the region appears to have outpaced the development of laws and regulations in cyber-security, making the continent vulnerable to cyber threats.
In Ghana, the country’s critical infrastructure – such as finance, health, agriculture and education – stand the risk of failing if nothing is done to protect it.

Technical Director of Hydra Cyber Security Kwame Odoru Numapau, on Tuesday August 15 in Ghana, launched Hydra Cyber Security services to Africa to provide the member-states, companies and individuals with comprehensive cyber-security services to address the shortfall, prevent them from losing their data, and guard against external manipulation.
Speaking on the sidelines of the African Youth and Governance Convergence in Mankessim, Ghana, he said Hydra is making an entry into Africa to match the Internet penetration rate with professional cyber-security guards and harness the potential of continent’s youth bulge in building young ethical hackers.
He said there are also a good number of smart young people in Ghanaians and across Africa selling on the streets and creating prototype cars from scrap metals, who can be set up with cyber and AI labs to engage and give them the training they require.
In the area of job creation, Kwame said in two years, about 3.2 million cyber-security jobs will be created worldwide, opening numerous job opportunities for Africa and Ghana’s teeming youth.
“I see Hydra in the next 10 years across all of Africa because we want to be the ambassadors who will be championing cyber-security services all across the continent,” he said.
