Employees of Olam Agri, the country’s leading supply chain manager in agri-commodity, have demonstrated their commitment to sustainability by donating new and slightly used items in support of two orphanages as part of a month-long sustainability initiative. The program is aimed at highlighting the significance of helping local communities while encouraging individual engagement in sustainable practices.

The beneficiary orphanages, ‘Chosen Children Orphanage’ in Darkuman, Accra, and ‘Save Them Young Mission’, at Golf City in Tema, received two respective consignments of assorted domestic items donated by staff, along with quantities of products of the company.

Olam Agri officials say the donation drive is meant to foster employee involvement in addressing issues relating to waste reduction, promote reuse and repurposing, encourage recycling, and render support to local communities. Over 500 orphaned children are set to benefit from this initiative by the employees of the company.

Employees enthusiastically participated in the donation drive, demonstrating their individual and collective commitment to impacting the environment and society positively. Donations began in June, and throughout the month, employees offered a large variety of domestic items such as clothes, footwear, toys, school supplies, and bags in support of children in these orphanages.

Said Madam Felicia, the Guardian at Chosen Children Orphanage, “We are very happy and grateful for these items. We are always looking for donations like these from individuals and groups like you. These kids are all over the place, and we are doing our best to provide a home for them. When they come, we want them to feel and look good and we rely mostly on your donations. This kind gesture will go a long way to put a smile on a child’s face.”

Mr. Stephen Adeakye, the national head of Human Resources at Olam Agri, was impressed with the level of employee response and expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their contribution and active participation in this year’s donation drive.

“We are thrilled to see the overwhelming response and generosity of our employees. They have shown their dedication to sustainability and the welfare of our communities. Through this initiative, we aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of these children, while promoting a culture of sustainability within our organization,” said Adeakye.

He prayed that the donated items would meet the immediate needs of the children and improve their living conditions substantially, adding that Olam Agri remains committed to driving socially responsible initiatives and endeavours to continue supporting local communities through similar initiatives in the future.
