The Akim Lodge of Ghana, number 28, has donated items worth GH¢20,000 to Akim Oda General Hospital in the Eastern Region.

They also donated GH¢5,000 to the hospital to help defray the cost of some patients who were unable to pay their bills.

WM Paul Obeng, who led a team to make the donation, stated that it is one of the lodge’s aims to provide support and embark on philanthropic activities within the community.

“As part of our charitable work, we as Akim Lodge (Freemason) number 28 decided to donate to the Akim General Hospital after finding out it lacks certain things,” Mr. Obeng stated.

“After a conversation with the hospital’s Social Welfare Department, we realised that there were some discharged patients who could not settle their bills. Therefore, we donated GH¢5,000 to the hospital to settle such debts,” Mr. Obeng added.

Madam Grace Antwi, who received the items on behalf of the hospital, expressed sincere gratitude to the group for the kind gesture.

According to her, the items will help soften some difficulties facing the hospital.

“The money we have received today will help ease debt and free the patients who could not settle their bills after being discharged. The items brought to us will also help improve on good health services and care,” Madam Antwi said.

Among the items donated were a hospital bed, 51 bed-sheets, 36 pillowcases, five rolls of paper tissues and Kleesoft washing powder, four power-zone bottles, four toilet-roll packs and two dustbins, among others.

Other items donated were two boxes of laundry soap, a gallon of floor cleaner and a gallon of liquid laundry soap.

The rest comprised five bags of detergents, antiseptic and two wall-clocks.

Madam Antwi also appealed for other philanthropists to come to the hospital’s aid.
