…targets to plant over 2000 trees nationwide

ASA Savings and Loans Limited is on-going with its tree planting exercise across the country.

The company, has targeted to plant over 2000 trees annually.

At the Dunkwa Senior High Technical School (SHTS) in the Central Region, 160 tree seedlings have been planted as support for the Greening Ghana Project. Casia, Toningii, Orange and Raintree are the types of trees seedings planted.

Mr. Graham Kyei Kwakye, Branch Manager of ASA Savings and Loans Limited, Dunkwa Business Centre explained that the tree planting initiative, is very essential for the environment due to climate change and global warming issues.

He said, it is also part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

Mr. Samuel Odame, Area Manager for Bekwai also added that “we will be visiting the place to ensure the trees survive and we are also pleading with the school authorities to keep a close eye on those plants. Fencing have also been provided by the company to ensure the survival of the trees”.

Mr. Christian Duodu of the Forestry Commission in Dunkwa who supervised the planting of trees advised the students and school authorities to take proper care of the seedlings to nurture and grow.

Madam Patience Larko Lartey, Headmistress of Dunkwa Senior High Technical School said “We are excited about the initiative from ASA Savings and Loans; I am appealing to you and other stakeholders to support our school in terms of infrastructure”.

In a related development, over 250 tree seedlings have been planted by ASA Savings and Loans Limited at three institutions in the Bosomtwi District of the Ashanti Region.

The institutions are; Kuntanase DA School, Police Station and General Hospital.

Dunkwa

Casia, moringa, rain, neem tree, cashew, ofram and royal palm are some of the tree seedlings planted in partnership with the Forestry Commission.

Madam Suzzy Ankomah, a representative of the Forestry Commission said “tree planting, basically is life. Life in the sense that we get air, water and food. Plants take in carbon dioxide from our environment and intend gives us oxygen, that is the air we breathe”.

“Most of our water sources which flows through our pipes to our various home are found in the bush. So, trees, purify and prevents it from drying up by providing shade for them. Trees, also serve as sources of food such as fruits which are vital nutrient needed by the human body as well as a source of medicine” he added.

Mr. Francis Gyabeng, ASA Savings and Loans Limited Area Manager at Santasi explained that the tree planting is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to protect the environment in its catchment area.

He said the gesture will go a long way to vegetate and prolong the existence of mankind and all living organisms on earth.

Mr. Julius Laryea (Jachie) Branch Manager of the company said the tree planting exercise is good for the country and entreated all to join in ensuring that the Ghana Green Agenda is sustained.

Mr. Richard Nartey, CSR Officer of the company said the tree planting exercise, is going to be done annually adding “tree provides food, check erosion, contribute to global reforestation efforts among others”.

The beneficiary institutions expressed gratitude to ASA Savings and Loans Limited for this initiative and promised to take good care of the trees to grow.
