The Accra Omega Lions Club organized a meal pack for hard-working nursing mothers in and around the National Arts Center in Accra on May 27, 2023. The activity coincides with the Club’s cause to serve humanity in the community it finds itself. The Club was birthed in 2022 under the tutelage of the Accra Premier Club. The Accra Omega Lions Club, a branch of Lions International, District 418 Ghana.
Lions International is a charity club, that offers humanitarian services to communities. It provides a global network of volunteers working together to make a difference. The Lions Club thrives on serving the needy in the community and has many causes that drive its existence. The causes that define the Lions Club are Diabetes, Vision, Hunger, The environment and Childhood Cancer.
The Accra Omega Lions Club as part of marking its May activity which is earmarked for Hunger decided to feed a minimum of 100 people around the National Arts Center. Mother Theresa of blessed memory once said “If you cannot feed a hundred people, then feed just One”. This saying resonates with the Accra Omega Lions club and as such was integral in helping the club make the decision with regard to the location of the National Arts Center for the activity.
The activity was used to appreciate the working women around the area taking into cognizance the kind of work they do which is essential to many families. The occasion was also used to interact with the nursing mothers on the essential of ensuring that as a family they are able to eat one hot meal a day so as not to deprive their bodies of the needed energy to cope with the work that they are engaged in. Lion Mamaga Kodzogasi II a past president of Accra Premier Lions Club who graced the occasion with her presence used the occasion to educate the women about menstrual hygiene. She also admonished the women to ensure that they take advantage of the free education to enrol their children in schools.
The members of the Accra Omega Lions served about 150 mothers and children during the activity, the food pack contained a balanced diet with its accompaniments. The membership drive also yielded fruits as the interaction with passersby and shoppers has seen the prospective lions’ list increase. The Accra Omega Lions club members raised monies internally and from friends with like-minded ideologies to pull this activity off. When caring people join together, roll up their sleeves and take action to make their community better, it’s a beautiful thing—and an incredible feeling for everyone involved. That is what makes us Lions. Being a Lion is about leading by example, building relationships and improving the world through kindness. Lions believe that serving together can make a lasting impact and change more lives within the community
