Kwabenya Business Centre of ASA Savings and Loans Limited, in partnership with Haven Health Services, has organised a free health screening for their clients.

Clients and members of the community were screened and tested on malaria, hepatitis B, blood pressure, sugar level, among others.

Dr. Solomon Ntaadu, who was in charge of the health screening, educated the clients on the need to exercise regularly, avoid the in-take of excessive alcohol, eat well-balanced meals, and ensure that their surroundings are clean.

He pointed out that high blood pressure and high sugar level were the most prevailing diseases. He advised those with high blood pressure to eat well-balanced diet, including fruits and vegetables, cut down on their consumption of alcohol and salt, and only take medication which have been prescribed by a physician.

He said exercise is a fast and effective way to lower their blood sugar level and encouraged them to drink water to always stay hydrated as well as eat more fibre, which slows down carbohydrate digestion.

According to him, medications were given to the clients depending on the type of diseases diagnosed, while others were urged to seek further check-up at any health centre close by.

James Annan Marley, Centre Manager of ASA Savings and Loans Limited, explained that the health screening is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

Sani Samir, the Kwabenya Area Manager of ASA Savings and Loans Limited, said the health screening, which is done annually, is for the clients to know their health status and ensure that they are healthy at all times.
