Chairman of the Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Committee, Benito Owusu-Bio, has expressed optimism in meeting the timelines for completing housing units for victims of the Appiatse mining-chemical explosion incident.
The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources responsible for Lands and Forestry, who was on a visit to the site, noted that considering the progress of reconstruction work, the committee is confident of meeting the targetted timeline.
Meanwhile, he expressed satisfaction with the level of work as he assured the public that the promise made by government to bring back the Appiatse Township is being fulfilled.
He said during the inspection that a drainage system has been commenced by the Department of Urban Roads to help direct rainwater to the right outlets.
Also, Mr. Owusu-Bio observed that the road network is also progressing steadily and indicated that core areas of the entire project, particularly roofing the houses, will be completed soon.
Briefing the deputy minister on progress of work, Site Manager for the project consultant – AESL -Walter Semordzie, said almost all buildings are at the gable level awaiting roofing.
He said immediately after the buildings are roofed, all other external works like plastering and painting will also begin concurrently – which will help finish-up the project in time.
A member of the Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Committee, Robert Gyamfi, said the initial impression of uncertainty from indigenes of Appiatse has changed since the roofing commenced.
