Tamale-West Church of Christ comes top in church games

Tamale Church of Christ Youth, on Monday, organised an inter-churches game to deepen their relationship and establish a wider network among the church faithful. The game, held at the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) Park, saw Tamale-West Church of Christ beating East 3-1 in the football match to lift the trophy.

The goals from the West side were scored by Boarh Gabriel (two) and Mohammed Amin (one), with the East side scored by Kofi Owusu-Ansah after a long shot by Lawrence Amponsah was saved by goalkeeper Joseph Adjei-Mensah.

Other games played were cards, oware, ludo, with the volleyball won by Tamale West-Church, Ampe by Tamale-East, draft won 5-3 by James Arthur Sekyi and Godwin Okyere from West and East churches respectively.

For the female athletics, it was won by Sister Eunice Etwire and Genevieve Kudiabor from the East Church, and Lydia Kusi and Doris Osei from Tamale West respectively.

For the men’s athletics, it was won by Joseph Adjei Mensah, Moses and Emmanuel Adoasi from the West Church respectively, while Michael Asamoah and Dickson Siani from the East Church took the third and fourth positions, respectively.

The Tamale-West church was spearheaded by its leader and coach Preacher Daniel Adjei-Mensah and the assistant, Richard Obeng while Tamale-East was led by Theodore Ahiafor and Kantam Johnson Dagingong.

The games had Dr. Francis Kusi, Director of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of the Savannah Agriculture Institute (SARI) and Dr. Raphael Adu-Gyamfi, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Crop Science of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food and Consumer Sciences to grace the occasion. They commended the organisers for the initiative. They encouraged the youth to keep up with regular exercise for a healthy living and the work of God.

The President of the Youth, Dr. Prince Maxwell Etwire, noted that the essence of the game was to strengthen the bond among the youths in the various congregations in Tamale Metropolis and the Sagnerigu Municipality to propagate the gospel as well socialise.

It was also to ensure the welfare of members as well as bring about unity among the youths and the entire church for its growth, he added. According to him, the youths always become dull during church, hence, the games to build and cheer them up.

Preacher Daniel Adjei-Mensah commended the East church youths for the event, saying it helped to identify each member from each congregation as brethren. “We need to try to make it an annual event in order to bring on board all the churches today to participate in the game,” he said.

He encouraged the organisers to ensure involving other Church of Christ branches in Tamale in next year’s games to make it a fruitful on. He advised the youths to often get involved in church activities, especially the bachelors and spinsters since that could be an opportunity to know one another.
