Lower Pra ladies support Sekondi female prisons

Lower Pra Rural Bank PLC Ladies Association has presented items to the Sekondi Female Prisons to support their upkeep. The items include used clothing, toiletries, detergents, gallons of cooking oil, assorted drinks, bags of maize, gari and beans, fruits among others.

Aba Dawoode, a Director at Lower Pra Rural Bank PLC presenting the items explained that the presentation is to put smiles on the faces of the inmates. She said that the donation forms part of the company’s their Corporate Social Responsibility. “The rationale, behind this donation is to let the inmates know that they are incarcerated but not forgotten, the bank is so passionate about the women, including you,” Ekua Ansah Ashong, also a Director of Lower Pra PLC added.

She said the bank cares and is very responsive to the needs of people, especially those within the communities in which they operate. She pleaded to the public not to forget the Female Prisons and support them at all times.

Superintendent Judith Abbiw, Second in Command at the female Prisons who received the items, expressed appreciation for the gesture and appealed to other institutions to emulate the example of Lower Pra Ladies Association.

She mentioned that currently, the Sekondi Female Prisons has 18 inmates with various offences. “Their major challenge here has to do with funds and to achieve rehabilitation and reformation, inmates, they are taken though counseling and acquisition of skills such as beads weaving, baking, hairdressing among others,” she said.

She appealed to the public to support the Sekondi Female Prisons in the acquisition of raw materials for them to learn these vocations. This, she said, would be helpful to the inmates in their re-integration into the society.
