Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SYNLAB Ghana, Patrick Asiamah, made these revelations at the inauguration ceremony of the company’s new head office complex at Shiashie in Accra, indicating that since SYNLAB Group acquired Medlab, a leading laboratory company in the country in 2015, it has made significant investments onward to expand its reach to deliver top-notch services.

“Starting from the acquisition of Medlab to now, we have invested about 30 million Euros in Ghana, including the acquisition, equipment upgrade, expansion in infrastructure and establishment of new laboratories, and staff recruitment among others,” he said.

According to management, with the aim to continuously deliver top-quality services with state-of-the-art medical diagnostics and be the partner of choice for health professionals, it needed a bigger space that is more convenient for the delivery of world-class medical laboratory services, hence, the decision to invest heavily in such a facility.

Mr. Asiamah further said: “The relocation of our head office became necessary as we began to expand, requiring a more spacious facility for our operations and, more importantly, to better serve our valued customers.

As we expand, we make a pledge not to lose sight of our core values of accountability, passion, and customer centricity and promise to continually deliver peace of mind regarding the quality and accuracy of your test results.”

He added that for the past seven years, since SYNLAB has been in Ghana, it has continued to focus on quality, affordability, and timely diagnosis to other healthcare organisations and the citizenry.

“We boast of being the first medical laboratory to be accredited with ISO 15189,” he added.

CEO of SYNLAB Emerging Market, Thomas Degott, indicated that his outfit in 2015, acquired a majority share of Medlab, and 2020 completed the takeover. He added that with about 5,000 tests on offer, SYNLAB has the largest most comprehensive laboratory test offering in Africa.

Through the power of synergy, SYNLAB Ghana can offer over 5,000 tests both locally and through its partner labs in Germany, Spain, Belgium, Turkey, and Italy. We offer an extensive range of reliable and innovative diagnostic tests and access to our radiology operations locally. SYNLAB combines the benefits of a European-wide network, operating in more than 40 countries with the advantages of local diagnostic services providers.

We pride ourselves in our specialised genetic tests. Some of these are Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT), BRCA-Plus, myPGx (a pharmacogenetic test), myBiome (which analyses microorganisms in your guts), Paternal DNA testing, and karyotyping among others,” he said.

Director of External Health Cooperations, Ministry of Health, Dr. Hafez Adam, speaking on behalf of the sector minister at the launch, mentioned the importance of accurate, comprehensive, and reliable laboratory results in healthcare delivery.

He mentioned that the regulator is aware of the operations of some sub-standard laboratories across the country, especially in remote areas, and is working assiduously to sanitise the system and ensure all labs meet a certain standard to provide quality healthcare.

He, therefore, urged all laboratory facilities and operators in the country to invest in ultra-modern technologies to improve the quality and accuracy of service delivery.
