The participants of the 2022 Capital Market Quiz implemented by Young Investors Network (YIN) are set to receive over GH¢10,000 investment funds from the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), which will be deposited in an account for each of them.

Aside from the seed fund, they will also receive mentorship training from Absa Bank as well as participate in a job shadow. They also stand the chance to go for internship programmes outside the country where their capacity will be built.

Speaking on how the various schools were selected, President of YIN, Joshua Mensah, said they reached out to about 20 schools but due to lack of proper preparations, only 15 of them were able to make it to this year’s competition, out of which three schools have been ceded.

Mr. Mensah added that before this year’s competition, YIN toured almost 5 regions and educated students from 50 schools on financial literacy, career guidance on investments, out-buy and sell stocks as part of the GSE’s ‘Outreach Education and Training’.

This is an initiative to challenge Senior High School students to increase their knowledge of savings and investment activities on the capital market and entrepreneurship. It is expected to support the GSE and its partners’ efforts in preparing the next generation of investors to create wealth and support the development of the capital market in Ghana.

This year’s ‘Capital Market Quiz’ saw some schools like St. John’s Grammar, St. Mary’s Senior High, Chemu Senior High, Accra Girls’, Accra High, Olam Senior High, Kwabenya Senior High, among others, with five of them qualifying to join the ceded schools in the semi-final stage of the competition.

They are: St. John’s Grammar School, St. Mary’s Senior High, Accra Girls’ Senior High, Accra High, and Tema Senior High School. Mr. Mensah mentioned that the participating students would continue to receive training and grooming even after the competition is over.

Speaking on the plans for the future of the competition, he said: “From next year, we will be going national because a lot of schools have drawn our attention to the fact that they are interested and want to partake. So next year, we will go to all the regions because we believe that this is something that they all need to know, and by the Grace of God, we will do it,” he said.

With GSE being the main sponsor of the event, there are other partners supporting the programme, like UMB Investment Holdings, IC Securities Limited, Central Securities Depository, the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), and Absa.
