The Bantama Business Center of ASA Savings and Loans Limited has organised health screening exercise for customers and residents of Bantama and its environs, in the Ashanti Region.
The health screening exercise, in all, benefitted over 200 residents who were screened for various medical conditions including hepatitis b, syphilis, hepatitis c, malaria, diabetes and hypertension.
The Medical Director, of Soteria Anglican Medical Center at Kronum, Rev. Dr. Antwi Boasiako, who led the medical team, observed that the common conditions among those regularly screened is related to the nature of business they do.
Particularly most the traders and market women suffer from musculoskeletal pain and insomnia.
“About 90 percent of the treated are traders who wake up very early in the morning, and also go to bed late and tired in the night,” he added. This situation, he noted, affects their sleep patterns for the musculoskeletal pains/weakness, which may result from the inability to have rest coupled with the posture they assume during their business.
He, therefore, urged the traders and the public, in general, to endeavour to have enough rest as part of activities to maintain a healthy lifestyle, adding that a healthy body is key to realising one’s economic goals.
Also, the Ashanti North Divisional Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, Felix Ahiadorme, in an interview said that ASA is keen on contributing to the mental and physical wellbeing of clients and host communities.
It is because of this that he said the regular health screening exercises which come with free medication are organised across the country, wherever ASA Savings and Loans operates. This is part of steps taken by ASA to realise the commitments to clients and host communities.
Furthermore, the Area Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, Enoch D. Fiador, said the exercise forms part of the corporate social responsibility activities of ASA and was hopeful that numerous clients will continue to take the opportunities offered to become more concerned about their health.
On her part, the Business Center Manager, Regina G. Amu, expressed delight at the participation of clients and community members.
She said this will help the community to realize that ASA Savings and Loans makes effort to give back to society through some of these activities.
