Chosen Woman Ministry has marked the 60th birthday of its founder and president, Lady Dora Tackie-Yarboi, with a health screening exercise for people within the Sempe and Lighthouse community at James town.

The exercise saw community members examined for malaria, hepatitis B, diabetes, obesity, dietary inadequacy, eye issues, breast disorders and other non-communicable and communicable diseases.

The team gave free treatment and medications to people suffering from the ailments they were diagnosed of. Aside from the health exercise, community members were also fed.

Speaking about the exercise, Ms. Tackie-Yarboi, who is the first lady of the Victory Bible Church International, said the outreach is significant to the Chosen Woman Ministry because they value giving back to society and meeting the health needs of the local community.

“Being here today is special because by God’s Grace I am 60 years. Though this is part of what we do every year, 10 years ago, I stood here and said 10 years from now, I will be here and by the grace of God, we are back to be a blessing to people.

This project is important to us because we believe in giving back to society. Medical screening is important to us. We will urge the government to put in place some mobile clinics. The ambulances are well welcomed, it is a very good idea but the mobile clinics will also help,” she said.

Community participants including 44-year-old Beatrice and her 72-year-old mother, Dorothy lauded the initiative and called on other organisations to replicate it to help deprived communities.

20-year-old Naomi who brought her one and half year daughter for a checkup said the outreach is helpful, given that medications are made available, because many do not have the wherewithal to purchase on their own.

The head of the medical team for the day, Dr. Daniel Mingle, who is a physician, told the B&FT that most issues realised included a few respiratory infections, a lot of hypertension cases, fewer malaria cases, and a lot of other non-communicable diseases.

He advised the citizenry to take regular health check-ups, which he said can help identify any early signs of health issues for prompt attention.

The Chosen Woman Ministry provides pastor’s wives and women in ministry a platform where they can be encouraged and empowered to carry out their God-given mission and have an impact in their various ministries and churches.
