Apple Crumble Pie is the perfect dessert for all occasions, and you would want to make it over and over again. Crunchy on the top, chunky on the inside, awesomely delicious and bursting with flavour is the perfect way to describe this apple pie. With simple ingredients like apple, flour, spices, brown sugar etc. which you possibly have in your kitchen, you are sure to excite everyone with just a slice.

Apple Crumble Pie has an easy to make pastry top; just crumble, sprinkle and bake into something appealing than you can imagine. The secret to achieving the ideal chunky filling for your pie is using firm and crisp apples, this is to avoid a mashy filling. Serve your pie warm, cold or at room temperature. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

For the dough

  • Flour -200g
  • Dainess Icing Sugar -130g
  • Eggs -40g
  • Salt -1g

 

For the filling

  • Lemon Juice -1/4 cup
  • Apple honey crisp -3lbs
  • Sugar -2/3 cups
  • Unsalted butter -1/4 cup
  • Dainess Cinnamon -½ tsp.
  • Dainess Nutmeg – 1 tsp.
  • Dainess Corn starch -1tbsp.

For the crumble:

  • Soft flour                           -90g
  • Dainess Light brown sugar -100g
  • Dainess Cinnamon               -1 tsp.
  • Unsalted butter               -113g
  • Salt               -1tsp.

For the egg wash:

  • Egg -1
  • Cream -1tsp.

 

Cooking Instruction:

The dough:

  1. Mix butter, sugar, flour and salt with the flat beater. Add eggs and mix into a smooth dough.
  2. Roll it out into sheets of about 2-3mm thick, refrigerate for several hours.
  3. Roll chilled pie dough into a disk, transfer into a pie dish, trim and return to refrigerator.

For the crumble:

  1. Add the flour, salt, sugar, cinnamon and mix until well-combined
  2. Pour in the melted butter, mix well.
  3. Put in freezer to chill.
  4. Remove from the freezer and then break them into crumbs.

For the filling:

  1. Peel, core and slice apples; then toss with the lemon juice.
  2. Cut apples in into small cubes of equal sizes.
  3. Add sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg; then toss to combine.
  4. Melt butter, add apples and cook, stirring until sugar dissolves and mixture begins to simmer for about 2 minutes.
  5. Cover and cook under low heat for 7 minutes.
  6. Mix in the corn starch.
  7. Strain apples into a clean pan.
  8. Recook juice, stirring vigorously until liquid bubbles; it thickens to look like caramel when ready.
  9. Toss apples in reduced juice, set aside to cool completely.

Assembling:

  1. Mix egg and cream or milk.
  2. Brush egg wash over the crust edge.
  3. Add filling to the dish and smoothen the surface with a spatula.
  4. Sprinkle the crumble on top to cover surface completely.
  5. Wrap the edge with a foil.
  6. Bake at 350◦C for 50 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake for 20 minutes to cook completely.
  8. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
  9. Serve and Enjoy.
