GIC produces the first Chartered Health and Life Insurance specialists in Ghana

The insurance industry in Ghana has come a long way in spite of the numerous challenges confronting it, particularly regarding the technical know-how required to properly manage and underwrite insurance. Of particular importance is the life and health insurance sector.

This sector is fast-growing in Ghana, and therefore, there is a need to train and produce the technical expertise required to meet the need of the sector.

It is in line with this that the Ghana Insurance College (GIC) and the Malta International training Centre (MITC) have decided to introduce the Life and Health Insurance Specialist Track in the Advance Diploma programme which has trained and produced the first batch of specialists for the Life and Health Insurance Sector.

On Friday, May 20, 2022, The College graduated its first cohort of specialists trained in Life and Health Insurance.
The life and health specialty, newly introduced by the GIC in 2020, took the participants through the rigors of industry best practices, global standards, and future trends in life and health insurance practice.

Poised to transform the industry, the premier batch after being taken through the rigours of life and health: underwriting, policy administration, claims processing, and management along with legal aspects of the business. This cohort aspires to deliver favourable outcomes for their respective organisations and the insurance industry at large.

Constituting this cohort are Belinda Owusu-Oduro, Caesar Adeiyonon Aloah, Deborah Okaiwa Amoah, Dr. Emmanuel Abbeo Annorbah, Frederick Marcello Appau , Kojo Antwi-Bosiako, Lawrence Daniels, Maame Konadu Sarpong, Mawuli Zogbenu, Nana Kofi Adjei-Sikapa Antwi, Dr. Nicholas Nana Ofori, Samuel Cudjoe Tindanbil and Yvette Adubea Anderson.

The team looks at creating the awareness on the importance of life & health insurance in Ghana by providing innovative solutions & paying attention to emerging risks and new methods of implementing insurance practice.

The Life and Health Track 2022 Team is endowed with about 10 years average working experience in the industry. This idiosyncratic team has expertise from: Insurance Broking, Marketing, Pensions, Underwriting, Product Development, Systems & Software, Training & Recruitment and Medicine, just to mention a few.

The 13-member team, apart from Life & Health firm, are well balanced in diverse professions including medical doctors, marketers and financial professionals. Interestingly, many of them currently ply their trade with prestigious organisations such as SIC LIfe, NIC, GIC & SSNIT, and are expected to lead in bringing monumental changes to the future of the industry. The team is ever ready to support and assist all stakeholders with the knowledge gained to build a ‘wow’ insurance experience for all.
